How To Design An English Cottage Garden

When people think of homes in the countryside in England, they typically think of a lush landscape with lots of greenery and charm, and while you might covet the idea of of that “England countryside” feel, it is actually not that difficult to design your own backyard so that it will give you this feel at your own home! If you want to landscape your garden so that it has an English Countryside feel, read on to pick up a few important tips!

The most important part of doing any landscaping is actually not part of the actual landscaping at all – it is the planning, as you need to have a complete plan in place before you go outside and start trying to change the way your garden looks. When you come up with a plan, you will have time to research some English cottage gardens to find exactly what you want to do, and you will be able to buy all the things you will need before starting all the actual work on the project.

The greatest collection of landscaping ideas!

Most English cottage gardens have a “closed in” feel, and the best way to achieve this feel is by planting a hedge that will close in the garden; you can even take things one step further, giving the hedge a “fence feel” by including a space for a gate in the hedge.

The plants in an English cottage garden are typically planted closely together, and while this can be overwhelming to plan, one way to make the planning easier (and to make the garden even more beautiful) is by planting small gardens within the garden – each with its own unique theme or approach.

As the project progresses, it is likely that your plan will change quite a bit, and your garden may not even look exactly like an English cottage garden – but the most important thing is that you will have a new garden that you designed yourself, and that you were able to inject with your own personal touch.
